If I'd want to recap my creative year 2007 into something, it would be the ripple blanket. It took nine months, about sixty hours of crocheting, two orders of Rowan yarns in over a dozen colors. One of the biggest things I've made myself.
And there most likely wouldn't be a ripple blanket in this household, if I hadn't discovered the joys of blogging early this year. My ripple blanket was inspired by Jane from Yarnstorm.
I fell in love with the amazing colors. The endless possibilities with the variations, the enticing combinations of color. Lime and pink. Sand and rose. Avocado and lingonberry red. My ripple blanket turned out wider than I planned, but being the lazy person I am, I let it be.
And now that it's finished, it's the perfect size for one adult and two kids. This is where we've enjoyed new books while it rains and howls outside - what a christmas weatherwise, where's the snow?
The ending of a year seems to be a time of reflection for me. I get all emotional.
I'm so very thankful for my little family. I'm married to a good, kind and generous man. We have survived the baby years and the irregular working hours and the lack of sleep.
Our kids have grown into interesting little people. They ask interesting questions like where does water come from. It's shocking and yet relieving to notice that we don't have baby in the house anymore. The kids dress themselves, eat themselves, go to the toilet themselves and mostly entertain themselves without constant assistance from mommy. Which has freed up a lot of my time, I can enjoy them and their never-ending sweet chatter on all possible things. I have time to knit and purl, to read books (real books!). It's afterwards as usual, that you realize what you've gone through. Don't get me wrong, I have always enjoyed being with my kids - wouldn't have stayed at home with them for 4,5 years otherwise. But taking care of very little children is a task, really.
So I'm looking forward to the new year, excited about the possibilities it brings. I've been thinking about a hexagon blanket or a red and white quilt...

Aivan ihana peitto, ei mennyt hukkaan siihen kulutettu aika! Se on minullakin tavoitteena joskus tehdä ja samasta lähteestä sain innoitukseni kuin sinäkin -Janen blogista ja kirjasta :).
Täytyy myöntää että ostin tuon Ilona lehden ihan vain lukeakseni tarinan sinusta. En ikinä osta iltalehteä ja onneksi nyt se oli sattumalta loppu ja sain vain haluamani (sen Ilonan). Juttu oli ihana ja kuvat kauniita.
Hauskaa uutta vuotta!
Ensinnäkin, peitto on aivan käsittämättömän ihana! Olen tuota samaista ohjetta miettinyt, kierrellyt ja kaarrellut -- kovasti tekisi mieli aloittaa vaikka se samaan aikaan hieman pelottaakin.
Puhut perheestäsi ja elämästäsi niin kauniisti. Tuli lähes kyyneleet silmiin tekstin tunnelmasta. Ja ajatus siitä, että vaikka noista kahdesta kovin pikkuisesta kovin nautinkin, on huojentavaa että jossain siintää aika, jolloin äiti saa hieman hengähtää :)

Olipa niin kaunis kirjoitus että täytyy oikein jättää omakin kommentti. Olen jonkin aikaa seurannut sivujasi ja ne ovat kyllä todella kauniit, inspiroivat, mielenkiintoiset yms yms. Olen saanut sivuiltasi vaikka mitä hyviä ideoita, kiitos siitä!
Itse olen ompelijan tytär mutta vasta aloittelemassa tätä samaa harrastusta. Vasta kahden pienen lapsen kotiäitiys on saanut tämän mielenkiinnon heräämään.
Kirjoitit tosiaan niin osuvasti ja "lohduttavasti" tuosta lasten kasvamisesta; juuri noin toivon sen itsellänikin menevän. Juuri nyt meillä on menossa ne ihanat, kiireiset ja väsyttävätkin vauva vuodet, mutta aika nopeaan ne kuitenkin ovat ohi...

Oh Outi, I love how your writing. This could even be a conversation with my mom,reflecting about life, where the year went, how we/her did it. My mom had 8 of us, it is for me not even possible to understand how she managed.
They say life changes with children, it gets more playful and you get more excited. I am shure you have lots of fun with yours. I love the picture of your children, they seems so happy without worries, safe..wonderful feeling. No wonder they like your new creation, so colourful, warm and soft! I would love to make one myself. This must be the most beautyful ripple blanket I've ever seen. The colours beeing so delicate, it is a pleasure to the eye.
Your blanket is amazing - what a great heirloom to make for your family. I am at a similar stage with children - since mine both started school my life has become so much easier. I loved my time at home with them, but the older they get the more I love it. I don't want to wish it away, but they are such good company, and not such hard work. And I have more time to do other things I love.

Hah, aiemmista täkkikuvistasi olin jotenkin tulkinnut sen olevan vauvakokoa. Olinkohan jättänyt jotain jopa lukematta. Hieman ihmettelin että koskakohan se valmistuu... Nyt sitten ymmärsin koko totuuden. Upea projekti, onnea!
