Fall festivities

The table is set! We have a couple of traditional parties in our neighborhood and the annual "Rapujuhlat" is one of them. Our ten households gather in the parking lot, pulling together tables and chairs and lanterns. The kids run around as a bunch and get to stay up late.

The little crabs were fetched from Eastern Finland by one of our neighbors. This year we boiled them ourselves outdoors which was an fascinating experience for the kids as well. A pleasant smell of dill wafted in the air and the creatures turned a beautiful red (who would not when dropped into boiling water, I think sarcastically).

Served with toast, real butter and a sprinkle of dill they are a fun thing to have.

Looks like fun, and the most beautifully set table I've ever seen for a 'parking lot' party!!

Outi, I think the Finnish variety should be called crayfish. Anyway, it looks like a wonderful party. Did you just have soft drinks, or did you hide wine bottles from the picture? A great way to get to know your neighbours, for sure.

Your party looks great - Yummy crayfish too. Is seafood reasonably priced over there - that much here would cost a small fortune!!!!

Lovely idea : "Our ten households gather in the parking lot".
Everyone gets to know each other a little better than just the occasional "Hei" when passing by. And the parking lot gets a whole different meaning now that you can stick a good memory to it!

Great idea and delicious looking dinner! Looking at the fotos it seems that autumn has come ( hats, scarfs and jackets ).
