The charity shop junkie reports...A beautifully shaped glass bowl. Is this one of those moulds I could use to make scary looking jellies with boiled eggs halves floating inside? I've seen those in some cookbooks from the 1950's. And in vintage Weight Watchers recipe cards. I do need an apron to go with this, I remember Vasilisa mentioning some vintage patterns for aprons she found at the library. Maybe I ought to take a look. I certainly have fabric for them. piles and piles of it to be honest.
As all mothers know taking decent photos with the help of an eager two-year-old is interesting. I put the apples in the bowl, place it on the little table at the end of our sofa, lean back and start to adjust lighting and ta-da, out of nowhere appears a little hand and reaches into the bowl. Grabs an apple. Looks at me pleadingly. "Mom, peel this apple". "Yes, honey, in a minute. Mom's just taking a few pictures. Put the apple back". Apple is placed in the bowl. I lean back with the camera and snatch - in goes the hand, out goes the apple. "Mom, peel this apple". "Yes, honey, just a minute. Put the apple back". "Mom, peel this apple". "Honey put it back". It goes on and on of course. And I start to think of him as a poor little hungry child and myself as the evil mother denying this simple treat. And then again, if it's not the thing I'm zooming at, it's the camera that attracts him like a magnet. Don't know which is better. Or worse.

My grandfather used to make a fish jelly like that and it was actually awfully good, with different types of fish, dill and egg halves.
